Ok guys just to get a debate going on this wonderful web site.

There are many pieces of string on a sailing boat with many names but which is the only piece we call a rope. Kingfisher crew exempt as I told them the other day.
Good luck

Only one I can think of is the bolt rope on the main? Undecided

To keep things going what is the only rope you will find on a ship (none sailing) - and you can't have soap on a rope?
To give you a clue it is four letters and you can either have lanyard or rope after it.
They can be very ornate.
First to answer gets a fun size Mars bar!!

Well done Jonny that's the one I was thinking of.
Your question rings a bell? Bell rope!

It was originally know as the union flag, how did it acquire the name Union Jack
